For Galdi, environmental impact is an issue of major concern. For this reason, we conducted an in-depth analysis to study the consumption levels of our filling machines, so as to reduce our CO2 equivalent emissions and our energy and water waste for the benefit of our clients and the whole planet.
The study, conducted in cooperation with the University of Padua Consortium for Applied Research (C.U.R.A.), focused on:
● Our filling machines' consumption levels;
● Our plant's overall environmental impact;
● Our shipping emissions;
● The environmental impact of our suppliers’ components;
● The end-of-life disposal of our machines.
The study allowed us to extract two important findings.
First, our carbon footprint, or the CO2 equivalent emissions of our whole operations.
Second, our water scarcity footprint, or the impact of our filling machines consumption against the water availability of their country of destination.
Not only did these important values offer us a clear picture of our environmental impact, they also prompted us to act on it and improve it as soon as possible.
One of the first solutions adopted by Galdi was Eco-Design.
Indeed, the study showed that the manufacturing of some components led to significant waste of material. We therefore turned our attention to the way our machines are designed, in order to reduce the impact of single components from the very beginning.
We’ve set some ambitious goals for ourselves and we’re quite excited about it.
After all, we are doing it for our planet as well as for our clients.
Indeed, with the continued tightening of environmental regulations, it is essential for enterprises to stay ahead of the game, limiting their liability exposure and the chance of being labelled as environmentally unfriendly, with serious reputational damage.
Furthermore, waste reduction also helps to limit consumption.
Considering that the average life cycle of a filling machine is twenty years, it's easy to see how curbing the use of resources can also bring significant financial savings.
